I voted for Alakazam because , in my opinion, it has the widest room to grow (especially if you raise it from an Abra). Even though personally Mewtwo is my favorite, I've always found Alakazam to be a bit more flexible battle-wise, and a bit stronger too. Mewtwo's great, but he's not unbeatable.

I went with Magikarp because it evolves into Gyarados, which comes in handy during later stages of the game. To be fair, though, Ditto can be quite useful too sometimes.

I only remember the shiny Gyarados, though I think I've caught another one before. How did some of you manage to get the shiny pokemon? I've heard you can get a shiny Magikarp, for example, by breeding a shiny and normal Gyarados.

I've always liked Corsola because of its dual Water/Rock type. It doesn't have to worry too much about Electric or Normal attacks, though the downside is that it's twice as weak against Grass types, being that both Water and Rock types are weak against Grass.
