Anime vs "Normal" Television shows

It's not that television shows these days are terrible... but to be honest, I never use my TV at all except for video games. I like anime much more than the shows you see on television these days. I think what attracts me to it is that (I think) American shows are based more on "normal" characters in abnormal plots or situations, but Anime, actually creates some fantastic extraordinary characters, which I really like. I think the characters are actually more important to a story than the actual plot is.

I agree with Shrine.
I, too, tend to be attracted to anime
more than "normal" TV.
However, I also like how the characters
can be so different from reality,
yet still seem to be "normal",
as in their emotions and things.
Also, many of the plots are so
different from reality, too.
It's nice to have an escape sometimes.

I'm the opposite here, I prefer 'normal' television to anime. When you say normal television, do you just mean general television or cartoons? If you mean cartoons, I hardly watch any but I prefer western ones to anime simply because I like cartoons to be completely silly and funny; I don't find that in anime. I also prefer the diversity in visual style among normal cartoons; as a non-fan anime looks, mostly, the same to me. You could take characters from one anime and place them in another and by and large they'd probably fit in without looking too out of place, visually.

I depends on the anime or show for me. For one Pokemon, the animation's a little lame. (Hope I don't get horribly maimed for saying that on a pokemon fan-site... ) Well if you look at the background on say the SS Anne eppisode you can see they don't even change the background characters, that looks a bit akward, some times the background dosn't even match the one they used a few seconds ago when they haven't even changed settings. However on other's they put a little more detail into the background and pay more attention to it. I'm not sure about the new ones. However even some of the worst animations in the US the pay ataintions to this.

Anther thing, assuming were talking about cartoons here; In the US cartoons are more directed to kids, exsept for your acasanal South Park or Family Guy, so there isn't as much plot stucter. In Japan, however, cartoons range from Kiddy shows to adult-you-know-what-I-mean stuff. So some Anime is more focused on plot.

If I may say for me: South Park>Most Anime, then .hack>South Park.

I prefer tv to anime. Our tv channels don't show any anime anyway.
I like tv more because of the shows. I'm a big fan of the C.S.I.'s and hereos is also fun to watch.

I usually don't have anything to do at night so I watch tv.

If I would watch any anime right now I would probably prefer anime to tv :P
