Oh, and at the train station, the woman that says that shiny pokemon are more likely to appear today showed up. Does that mean I could potentially fish up a shiny pokemon at the harbor?

It simply states interactions, they don't have to come from members specifically. Anonymous users are also able to contribute and is part of the design of the website as it encourages engaging new people who may become members and growing the community rather than walling and secluding it to just existing members

No. I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to update the breeder manual to state this but you can only encounter shiny Pokémon by modifying or breeding your existing Pokémon. You will never come across a shiny Pokémon that you catch/buy/are given.

i got one too and thought it was a magnemite. male as well. hope we can figure out which cave gave it to us and try to get a female. lol
