First, you must visit Sevii Island One if I remember corectly. There talk to Roark and he will give you a mining set. From that point forward you can mine in Faraway Cave (but only on days where no one is there to give you pokemon) and the Sevii Island One, but you must wait one hour after each mining to continue.
