Third wheel of each series

To try and start up some conversation around this forum I'm going to post this topic posing the question: Do we need a third game for each generation of Pokémon?

The "third wheels", Pokémon Yellow, Crystal and Emerald, are, in my opinion, pointless, most of the things they add are useless and never carried on inbto the next game, with the exception of maybe the Battle Tower in Crystal. Pikachu following you around in Yellow, that was a pretty cool idea, it would have been even better if they'd expanded on that idea if not for Gold/Silver then for Ruby/Sapphire, even if purely for aesthetic purposes, being able to let out a Pokémon to follow you around would have been pretty darn cool in my opinion.

The new pre-battle animations released in Crystal were a dissapointment and sub-par in my opinion, they didn't bother carrying them through in Ruby/Sapphire and I don't see the point of them doing it for Emerald, they're nothing amazing and don't serve much purpose.

Really, is there any point having a third wheel to each generation? Any addition they make is normally lost in the next generation as it follows a whole different story, which is one of the reasons the Pikachu following you around idea was nullified. Personally I think Nintendo should stop milking the Pokémon money cow and just skip the extra game to speed up the release of the new series, which I'll bet most Pokémon fans looks forward to more.

I think it is just pointless because nintendo waste more money and people have to wait longer, a remake is just as the same but with more features, but I think emerald should have just been a patch that could be downloaded to the game, they should have some place you can download the patch onto your computer and then upload it your GBA, (if that will ever happen). I would not buy the game, unless it has something that makes it more useful, (the battle is on EMERALD)That's what I think, phew that was hard work

Well, Pokemon Yellow was actually my first pokemon game. It had good features such as pikachu folllowing you around and COLOR! Anyway, Crystal stinks Features were absolutely useless. But Emerald... I'm a bit curious about this game for its revamped... And lotta more battling places, but really, its still the same as R/S. *Hopes they use Fr/Lg updated sprites*
