Why do Nidorina and Nidorino evolve with a Moonstone?

Post by Pikachu3828 »

Has anyone actually thought about this? I only did whilst I was battling Giovanni's Nidoqueen on Fire Red. Why on Earth do Nidorina and Nidorino evolve with a Moonstone?

I can understand Pokémon like Clefairy - they're meant to come from space, so it's only natural they'd evolve with a Moonstone as it's also from outer space, it makes sense as far as Pokémon goes, but why Nidorina/Nidorino? They have nothing to do with outer space of anything to do with the moon. They're simply little rabbit/mouse esque Pokémon that like on Earth. Why would they need a Moonstone to evolve?

And another thing, why can't Nidoqueen or Nidoking breed? Youd've thought those would be two prime candidates for breeding :? Maybe they're aliens? Gives reason to why they can't breed and evolve with a Moonstone. Who knows?

My theorys:

Moon Stone evolving - Happyness wasn't put in the original R/B/G so they just made them evolve with Moon Stones

Unable to breed - Too many steroids

While I'll agree not everything in the Pokémon universe makes total sense, I fail to see why they'd actually want to confuse us?

I have no idea, maybe some person in Japan thought it would be funny, or because the Nido's are releated with Clefairy

Maybe it was so the Moonstone would have more purpose than just for two Pokémon... wait... Forgot about the Thunderstone, never mind.
I always have wondered why Nidoqueen/Nidorina can't breed. That's... annoying.

That is a possiblity, It could also be that when they were origianally created that they were going to be put as moon dwellers, or something simular.

I personally think it might have to do something to do with the back story of the Nido-family. Every Pokemon has something they were based on. Sunflora was based on a sunflower, Golduck & Ludicolo are based on the Kappas, and Ursaring is based on a Grizzly Bear.

If someone could figure out their background, it could possibly help.

They look like they were based on dinosaurs,(like a horned T-Rex 0_0) but that's just a guess...

Nintendo just wanted to give you more pokemon to evolve with a moon stone so you had to work to find the two hidden ones,

For myself, i have no clue why they did that. I've wondered for the longest how they could evolve with a Moon Stone, but never found a good answer. The theory that I seem to lean towards believeing is the one that Pokemon came from outer space. How many Pokemon do we know of that actually did?
