Has we all (hopefully) know, some of the Pokemon in the upcoming Diamond/Pearl titles will look slightly different, due to gender. Now, I must wonder: how is this going to be explained in the anime?
We've all seen groups of Pikachu's before but according to the new sprites on serebii.net, female Pikachus have a "notch" shape that reverses into their tails. Does that mean that every single Pikachu seen has been male so far?
And are there any ideas on how to succesfully explain the problem?

Everybody, even the animators, got LASIK.
Seriously, they could say that in this region, the Pokemon can actually be separated by gender because of evolution or something. Of course, everyone will be subliminally tricked into believing it.
