Ok so I just found out something. The starting towns are named after a part of a plant.
Like,
Littleroot Town
New Bark Town
Pallet Town
Twinleaf Town

The town names usually follow some sort of pattern. For instance, the Kanto towns were all named after colours. Johto towns were inspired by plants/colours and Hoenn towns were inspired by trees. Sinnoh towns don't seem to follow any set pattern.
