I can't get Mew!

I saw the cheat to get Mew (on Red/Blue). I restarted my game, got 3 badges and a pokemon with fly, let the gambler see me, flew to Cerulean, and...
strange things started to happen. Whenever I went up to the youngster he ignored me. He saw me, then went back to standing there, and from then on I couldn't move.

After doing that about 10 times, I noticed that from the moment I set foot in Cerulean City I could no longer get to the start menu or talk to anyone. Everyone just looked at me then looked away, except for the youngster who freezes my game in addition. I can't talk; I can't ride my bike; I can't fly; I can't battle; I can't get Mew.

I have no idea what to do

First of all, this topic should be in the Pokemon Games forum, so I'm moving it there.

Here's two questions for you (so I can figure out what might have went wrong):

Did you battle the Gambler or did you Fly before he saw you?
Did you let the Youngster walk up to you when he saw you, or did you walk in front of him and not let him move?

I had my Mew Downloaded at a Nintendo Event back in Summer 2000.

But there's other ways.

* Ask any of your friends if they have Mew, ask for a trade.

* See if Any of the game shops (perticually those that specailise in the older consoles about a download from Nintendo.

* I dunno if they still do, but Would there be any Mew Downloads at Ninetendo gaming Conventions?

No, I didn't fight the Gambler. And now that you mention it I didn't let the Youngster move, although I did try talking to him from the side as well as the front, if that matters. Should I try letting him come to me?

I have a Mew already, but I got it at lv. 100 and I've always wanted to raise it myself. The kid I got it from...wasn't so bright. He traded it to me for a lv. 16 Oddish.

That's what the glitch requires, so yes, let him walk to you.

Not so bright, or very nice? Can you get Mew twice in the game? If you can't I'd put him/her down as "nice," rather than "not bright," unless they were going to quit the game anyways. Nice anyways.

The problem is let him walk to you and don't talk to him. It should explain on the pokemon sites that trainers will ignore you and the strat utton won't work until after the battle.
