Pokémon Emerald as opposed to Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire?
Could anyone enlighten me on what the differences are between Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire? I presume it's supposed to be like the Yellow to Red/Blue and the Crystal to Gold/Silver, but I've heard ir's got new areas too, and lots of other things.
Could people please tell me what the differences are between Emerald and Ruby/Sapphire, preferably by posting here rather than giving links to other websites?

I just looked at the most recent issue of Nintendo Power. And... I'll type all I could read before the issue was snatched away because I didn't play all my piano.
Where the Battle Tower is, the place has been seriously expnanded. I believe it's known as the 'Battle Fronteir' or something. There's a variety of challenges there, such as battling fields of wild Pokémon or loads of trainers. At the end of many (or most) of these challenges in the 'fronteirs' you have to battle a trainer of the area, I think called the 'Brain'? Well, ummm... you get little symbols to show completion of the fronteir challenges, and I guess this might be viewed on the Trainer Card.
The Battle Frontier is so big that it looks like a town or something. And yes, there is a building that looks like a Seviper on the outside. (wonder what challenge is in that frontier?)
I also think I read that you can get Groundon and Kyogre, and Rayquaza might be more involved in the game than in Ruby/Saph. And... Uh... The magazine also said that preordering Emerald is on March 20th... or around there... Man... I'll edit this once I read the Pokémon Center section of Nintendo Power completely.

I got another Nintendo Power issue, so I'm typing the gist of more info.
Some of the 'frontiers':
Battle Dome
Use your own Pokémon and see your opponent's team along with some clues about your opponent's strong points
Battle Arena
/use 3 Pokémon with rules like... no switching during battle (even with use of stuff like Baton Pass). The battles last for 3 rounds.
Battle Factory
Use a team of rentals, and get clues about your opponent's strong points
Battle Pike
Different battle challenges, meaning, "single or double battle Trainers, wild Pokémon or even Pokémon healers (?)"
In the Battle Frontier, there are these points called 'Battle Points' or 'BP' (It looked like it could have been 'Berry Powder', but it isn't) Anyways, these points are earned battling in the Frontiers, and can be exchanged for prizes of sorts. (Leftovers = 48BP, Choice Band = 64BP.....)
I also read that the Battle Frontier has its own mart, wild catchable Pokémon (I don't know if the ones in the Battle Pike are catchable) and I think there's a breeding place. Ummm... you also get a map of the Battle Frontier when you go there cause it's big.

So really it's sort of like a Pokémon theme park within the game?
Hmm, that sounds a nice idea. I'd buy it, but I didn't like Ruby/Sapphire that much and while Emerald sounds like it has some cool new features, I still wouldn't want to play another R/S, or a game similar to it
Mind you, I said that about FR/LG and still ended up getting FR anyway and I'm not disappointed ![Razz :-P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

I never liked contests that much myself but I think it was pretty stupid of Game Freak to include options like Pokémon contests and berry growing in one games series and no others ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
