Wii Sports: Most successful video game of all time

According to the above website, Wii Sports is the most successful video game of all-time, outselling even Super Mario Bros. The game being bundled with the Wii console in most countries definetely helped its sales but this is still a HUGE milestone. The website lists a chart of other successful video game record sales:

I'm a bit suspicious that this chart only lists Nintendo games. I had heard The Sims was one of the best selling video games of all time too. I'm not sure of the exact figures, but I would have imagined it should be on the chart.

the sims has sold 16 million, if you look at the graph there, Super Mario Land is up at about 17 or 18 million.

The reason it's predominatly Nintendo Games is that most (if not all) of those games have been part of Package deals... at least 4 of those were launch bundles. All the other major consoles dont really sell a game included in the console (which is an instant sales figure for the game - thus why Wii Sports & Super Mario Bros have sold so many) and when Sony or Microsoft DO do put a specific game with a console, its only a limited edition and only really available for a month or so. Most bundle deal's these days are made up by the shop selling it.

If you were to discount the sale of a game that came included in the console, then the top 10 list looks something like this:

1. Pokémon Red, Blue and Green (Gameboy) - 20.08 Million Copies Sold
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - 18 Million Copies Sold
3. The Sims (PC) - 16 Million Copies Sold
4. Nintendogs (Nintendo DS) - 14.75 Million Copies Sold
5. Pokémon Gold and Silver (Gameboy) - 14.1 Million Copies Sold
6. Super Mario Land (Gameboy) - 14 Million Copies Sold
7-tie. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Playstation 2) - 13 Million Copies Sold
7-tie. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (Game Boy Advance) - 13 Million Copies Sold
7-tie. The Sims2 (PC) - 13 Million Copies Sold
10. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Playstation 2) - 12 Million Copies Sold

As you can see, Nintendo is STILL a major presence in the chart (6 out of the top 10 games sold are nintendo games)

I wouldn't call it the most successful video game of all time, since it's bundled with the Wii. If it wasn't bundled, I doubt it would get that far. If some PS2 game was bundled with the PS2 since it's launch, there would be over 100 million copies sold then.

Ace calculated that and yes, it was being bundled with the Wii that pushed it to the top. But you're playing the what if? game. Fact is there are over 40 million copies of it in households, more than any other video game regardless of how it got there.
