Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
GTA's first appearance on the DS console and a pretty good attempt I feel. The controls and perspective take a bit of getting used to but once you get the hang of it it's really fun, it's like a homage to the older top down GTAs (rampages etc) but with all the improvements its 3D counterparts have brought with it.
The story's a bit short, but as usual there's plenty to do in terms of side missions and finding hidden stuff. I'm really surprised the game features drug dealing; 10 years ago or even 5 years ago the idea of anything of that sort appearing on a Nintendo console was virtually unthinkable.

just goes to show that nintendo are trying to not aileanate any part of the public when it comes to games and that no matter who you are or what your tastes are you will find a game or two on a nintendo console to suit you

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Despite this Nintendo still maintains a 'kiddy' image. Do you think we'll ever be seeing a full blown proper GTA game on a Nintendo console? Almost certainly not the Wii since it's not powerful enough but Nintendo had said they might be interested in making their new consoles with more up-to-date technology.
It's pretty much a fight to secure GTA on your console, do you think Nintendo would ever join in the bidding?

its possible that we'll see a full GTA on a nintendo console (i nearly used the word 'proper' GTA, but chinawars is a proper GTA as far as i am concerned). You just need to see the amount of adult properties that is shifting to the wii at the moment, dead rising, resident evil - and sega has that Mad World as well, plus a few more original IP adult themed games, they're slowly shacking off thier kiddy image.
If the new metroid made by Team Ninja does well, that will be another step in the right direction (just getting team ninja on board should be a step in the right direction)

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
It wouldn't be quite difficult to have GTA on the Wii has about the same processing power as the PS2. I doubt that the Wii would not be powerful enough for GTA. It would be quite different to play GTA on the Wii than it would be on a traditional controller like on on a PS3. I don't think Nintendo would mind having a few adult themed games marketed on the Wii, considering that they want to have a "fun for the family" image.
A new Wii console might not come for 3-5 or even 8 years. That's not surprising when the 360 has over 4 years left and the PS3 has 7 years left. Hopefully the next Nintendo console won't resort what the last generation used.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
that just sounds like what they did with the 360 elite... repakage, reboxed (its now black instead of xbox standard while), bigger harddrive, hdmi cable... a couple of changes were made but nothing major... sounds like that's all the new natal one will be according to that article

Microsoft says the 360 is less than halfway donePikachu3828 wrote:Rumour has it the next Xbox is due out in 2010Pikachu90000 wrote:That's not surprising when the 360 has over 4 years left
The article mentions the new 360 is just a refresh, like how the DS Lite was a refresh of the DS and the DSi was a refresh of the DS Lite.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Maybe, but as the article also states it'd be very unusual for Microsoft to bring out a slightly better version of the 360. For some reason handhelds have been able to get away with it but I'm not sure if the prices of full blown consoles is conducive to piecemeal upgrades. Then again consoles are getting closer and closer to being like PCs which are continually upgraded via different components slowly over time.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
From what I understood the Xbox 360 Elite didn't really change the Xbox 360 specs. It changed the console colour and added a bigger hard drive, as well as a more sophisticated heat sink. Specs such as RAM, GPU, CPU etc stayed the same, so it's not really an upgrade in the way the article suggests.

Re: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
I believe the Elite had a newer chipset or something like that, but the differences were minor. A good example of mid generation changes would be the PSP. There has been four variants (orignal, slim, 3000, go).
