Well, there are pros and cons.
Pro: You can use Wi-Fi to connect with other people in real-time.
Con (at least for me): You have to have high-speed and you have to be popular so people will know you. But you can go to McDonald's just to download letters from Nintendo with presents.
Pro: It's portable.
Con: A lot of the holidays and pattern space were removed for the cartridge limits, only to be replaced by lame ones. Also, you can only have 8 villagers. 7, if you consider the fact that one is always going to leave soon.
Pro: You have more tools, such as the slingshot and watering can.
Con: You have to water flowers every time they turn brown, which is frequent.
Pro: The museum has been expanded to include a cafe where KK plays songs and an observatory to make constellations.
Con: You can only get paintings for the art section from Redd, which are 99% of the time fake.
In short, it's fairly fun, but not quite the gem the original was.

I say, "Go for it! After a while, (4 months or so), you lose the 1st excitement, but it's something to keep you occupied on trips."
