I believe you talk to Copper, and ask him to go out via WiFi. He'll say how you need some kind of friend code to give to your friends, and if you don't have one, he will give you one. To see your friend code, talk to Copper again to ask him, or open your menu and go to the friend roster (a yellow heart) and click on the key icon.
