This is a very old game, I know, but it's still a great one. How many people here own Super Smash Bros Melee? How far are you in to completing it? Who is your favourite/best character?
As for me, I have unlocked all secret characters, a lot of stages, have 271 trophies and am up to level 50 in event mode. I just cannot beat those two hands working together Anyone got any tips? I've been using Captain Falcon, I know he's light so he gets thrown about easily but he's also very fast and so can dodge most attacks easily.
As for my favourite character, that would have to be Roy, no prizes for guessing why I don't have a best character, however, I like quite a few, mainly:
To anyone who has played this game: I'm trying to collect all the trophies and currently I'm trying to get the Home Run trophy. To get this one you need to score over 1000m in the Home Run Contest. The problem is I don't know how on Earth to do this. My record is 421m with Yoshi, as I read somewhere he's the best for this challenge, but as you can see my record falls over halfway below the required length. Has anyone got any tips on how to improve this?
Another problem I'm encountering is Event match number 50, the one with the two hands. I try and try but cannot complete this. I know this is simply a case of endurance, but has anyone got any tips on how to make this easier, like a specific character to use, or a fighting strategy?
first off Roy, we are the exact same person the only people I use are Captain Falcon, Roy, and Mario! and..
Second use Fox for the Home Run Challenge. Just use his gun as much as possible until like 1 second left then use the HOme RUn Bat and do the over + A and hit it. I got up to 980 SOOOO CLOSE! Laso I can't get mew2 it's makin me mad! ARGH but whatever the game is awesome and it'll never go old. I heard that Nintendo plan to come out with 2 more for the Revolution (as you know the Gamecube's older bro) and they are planned to be the most anticpated games EVER! I am SOOO EXCITED! don't ask me where I got info about the games i can;t remember where. it wasn't a search. but yeah it;s the greatest game ever except Midnight club 3 DUB, NBA Street Vol. 3, Halo 2 and Pokemon XD: GoD!
Well I managed to beat event 50 (and subsequently event 51) I ended up using Ganondorf. His smash up+A attack is one of few that can hit the hands while standing on the ground and it does ~50HP each turn, pretty decent!

Thanks for your help, shotty_shorty, it's definitely improved my distance with Fox, but I can't get anywhere near your score. My highest score with Fox is about 362m. How do you get 980? I shoot it as quickly and as much as I can in the time I have in which I get it up to about 94% damage and then I smash it with the tip of the baseball bat for a total of around 104% damage. How much damage did your bag have to get 980% and how did you achieve so much through just shooting it?
I love this game! If we are playing in teams, my sister and I are pretty good with Pikachu and Jigglypuff together. I make the opponents fall alseep adn she shocks them off the board. XD I like to play Kirby more, though, and take everyone's abilities. The little hats/outfits he gets are so amusing. I am not great at the game, but I still have a good time.
I own this game, and have beaten the game. =D The only thing I havn't done is collect all the trophies. I started a new game, though..
Anyway, if your having trouble with Level 50, which took me a few tries, try using Yoshi. Yes, Yoshi lol. He's surprisingly good in that event. Also, people like Captain Falcon, Marth, etc. are all very good at those as well, for their speed, but Yoshi worked for me both times I did it.
Lol, I was playing Adventure Mode, and I had almost beat Master Hand, and all of a sudden Crazy Hand comes in. That made me mad, because I was playing on the hardest level lol.
Nevertheless, my favorite characters are Link, Roy (Marth is quicker, but Roy has more power), Young Link, and Mewtwo. I hate playing as Luigi, because if you get knocked off a ledge, it's hard to get back on. @_@ His double jump is horrid...
Also, they're making a new SSB game for the Revolution. Who do you want in the game? I want Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Daisy, Sonic (even though he's a Sega character), Leon Kennedy (:D Lmao, I'd have a heart attack if they put the Lake Monster from RE4 in there), and... Baby Bowser! He pwns. ^_^
Melee is a classic, I still play it a lot when friends are over. The great thing about it is that anyone can enjoy it: you just mash buttons as fast as you can; no matter how horrible you are, eventually you get lucky by just pressing stuff a lot!
I've unlocked everything... My best character is by far Pikachu, thunder attack and smashes are outstanding attacks, and his triple jump is a life saver.
Anyway! I'll do my best to halp with some of the things you guys were askin about....
Easiest way to get mewtwo- start a versus match with two "human" players and put it on 10 stock. then choose a the final dimension (or whatever it is) as the map. then go to sleep! when you wake up, finish the battle, and mewtwo will challenge the winner. he's a pretty easier fight, but apparently if you loose he will appear after the next versus match (totally not verified by me, so I dunno if it's accurate).
The two master hands I think i did with either Yoshi or Pikachu. Yoshi you would have to use the jumping down-A flutter kick a lot, and be good with dodging things with the mid-air L/R thing... Pikachu's approach would be mainly thunder and quickness...
Lastly, the home-run bat thing...I did it with yoshi doing the down-A flutter kick a lot...it just takes practice to get the timing down and the coordination right...

No, he means Super Smash Bros Melee, as in the previous game released 7 years ago, not the more recent one
This topic is over 2 years old, it would have been nice if you noticed that
Also, for reference you have to hit the sandbag 1000 FEET, which all the american copies have the distance messured in, but the european copies (which is what Roy would have been playing) were messured in meters. You only need to hit just over 400 meters (405 i think was the actual number) in order to do it.
Yoshi + jumping Down A several times + full smash bat should make it.
