Inactivity.
I probably won't be active for a while.... Because I'm going to have a lot to do over the next few months:
a. Guitar lessons start in two weeks
b. Vocal lessons start in two weeks
c. PSAT prep course starts in two weeks
d. Entering second term of school, where things are harder.
e. Mother is planning outside-of-school Spanish private tutoring.
f. Mother is also planning another outside-of-school World Language class for me.
g. Mother demands that I write and publish a novel by the beginning of my Sophomore year.... About six months or so away.
h. Pentablet. I need the time to draw.
i. Science Fair project.... Going to be an incredible pain in the butt. Might even involve a bit (or a lot) of Trigonometry....
j. More stuff I don't want to think about at the moment.
Apparently, if I know five languages fluently, I'll be able to get into a majority of the good colleges. I'm happy with just Berkeley, which is slightly underachiving.... But mother dearest wants at least Harvard. .-.
My grades are being nice at the moment, and the lowest one I have is a 96% in Phys/Earth Science.
French is coming along rather well.
I'm learning to use my tablet well.
My father plays with my guitar more than I do.... It's a little depressing.
I still need to write all my other stuff, as well as the "novel" I'm supposed to publish.
Feeling a little stressed. Might actually need to put effort into school.... Ew.
I will have no social life whatsoever by Sophomore year, where I have four AP classes just planning to rip me apart.
DEAR GOD, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE?
(I'll try to stop by once in a while and say hi.)

Re: Inactivity.
How many languages do you need anyways? English, French, and now Spanish and some other languages I assume you already know. Isn't that enough already?
I have a friend that tried to publish her story to a publisher. It was in my opinion quite good, however it got rejected, citing "We just aren't into these types of stories at the moment". So I have severe doubt about you getting your story published.
Science Fairs shouldn't be especially hard for you. Just pick the easiest project that you can find and that would still give you good marks. I have a science fair on March 4th. >.<
96% is not that bad. The worst mark I got last term was 85% and it was English. My teacher is the type who thinks those in lower grades are meant to get lower marks.
I don't think any schools where I live offer AP. Only IB, and which I'm taking two years from now. Hopefully the TOK classes won't be as boring as everybody says they are.
Thankfully, I don't have much homework or much stress so I'm fine.
Anyways, see you back soon.

I felt sorry to read that, Mira. I have a friend who's as busy as you, and she has no social life either. I think it's insane to have so much work before college. You're a human, living should be incorporated into your life. >_> I'll keep an eye out for you around the forums, see you later.

Re: Inactivity.
g sounds particularly far-fetched. Composing a novel and getting it published is something very many people dream of but few people actually manage. To make it a demand on a to-do list makes it sound like your mother hasn't comprehended quite how difficult and hit-and-miss that can be.
Harvard is a very prestigious University and you would be well-set if you managed to get into it, but the last time I checked you weren't required to speak 5 fluent languages to get into it. No offence either, but it takes years to learn a single language alone and there is a difference between comfortably knowing a language and fluently knowing a language. The latter takes years and it's only usually after being surrounded by it and having to use it, such as moving to the land of the language and living there for a while.
Either way, sounds like your mother wants you to exceed and succeed. I'd imagine you'd be in good standing for Harvard if you do everything on that list and get the required grades but just be careful you don't burnout.

"Burn out". I burned out a while back. .___.' I'm running on sheer willpower and threats.
I know writing a good novel within six months is unreasonable. Not entirely my fault.... I just happen to be the person the demands are directed towards. Not writing the thing is not an option. It's do or die. Or rather, do or get pentablet taken away.
I'm pretty sure language fluency is a requirement. I've got to know four other languages as well as I know English.... Something that still scares me.
Thank you all.

Re: Inactivity.
Wow, I'm in a similar situation.
well, not exactly, since I'm a junior,
but the pressure and things are already building up.
I had to quit my guitar lessons to keep up.
Anyway, good luck with everything.

I truly feel sorry for you, I truly do. I don't like parents who want their children to over accomplish and make them put up with a load of stress.
Idea: If your mom is English impaired, you could always copy random paragraphs from the Internet and call it a story.
I think universities here in Canada only require a Grade 12 level of a secondary language, not sure about the states. Should be similar though.

Re: Inactivity.
I don't think any Universities here actually require you to be able to speak a second language. The only language requirement I can think of is if English is not your first language, in which case you must pass a proficiency test. (The exception obviously being if you're taking a language course)

Thank you again, everyone. I really have no idea what I would do without being able to spill out my insides here. xP
@Pikachu90000: My mother wants it published. PUBLISHED. Obviously, plagiarism won't work there.... And I've still got about 200 pages ahead of me.
@Pikachu3828: Every UC college/university in this state requires at least two terms of one language.... But apparently, that's underachieving.

Re: Inactivity.
Your mom will definitely be greatly disappointed. I had a friend that tried to publish a story to a publisher and failed. Our English teacher who thought it was the best story out of our class, recommended it, but it was not published.miradapurple wrote: @Pikachu90000: My mother wants it published. PUBLISHED. Re: Inactivity.
Then again, if you publish the book yourself then it doesn't matter how good or long the story is.

Re: Inactivity.
Okay, due to the fact that multiple people think I need to see a shrink now, I might be inactive a bit longer than planned.
....
Nice to be back for a few seconds, though. <3
