The fact that a Weedle stands just as much chance of winning as any other Pokémon is based on my own experiences with the Bug Catching Contest in HG/SS, where my awesome Scyther was beat out by a Weedle :-x

Also in my bag the thingie where the berry is supposed to be, there is a box with a red X in it.. HELP

It's not sad, it's chance. The system works the same way as not only HeartGold and SoulSiver but as the original Silver and Gold as well. It's about persistance and chance. It's kind of like 'don't judge a book by it's cover' except it's 'don't judge a pokemon by it's type or size'. If you keep trying eventually I'm sure you'll get a pokemon strong enough to put you in the top 3.

Also I doubt Shiny pokemon will do any good...it's a difference of rarity and coloration not strength. From what I know shiny pokemon are no stronger than normal...they just LOOK different. I could be wrong and they may have it differently here but I doubt it'll make a difference...also I don't think they'll put shinies in the contest. What's the point if you can't keep them?

As a note, you will not find any shiny Pokémon in the wild. All methods to obtain shiny Pokémon currently require breeder intervention in some way.

I think shinies have better stats than regular pokemon, by the way can you please tell me what all these random numbers mean?

I'm guessing you're talking about the pokemon's strength that you can see with the bug scanner, well it's just that, it's strength. The higher the number the stronger it is, the person with the pokemon who has the highest number (strength) wins the contest

I was thrown by the numbers being so high at first but I quickly figured that was probably done to avoid any ties, the more numbers involved means the less chance that two will be exactly the same so someone's would always be higher and therefore there would always be pretty well defined places.

Well you start out with one berry then you can win further ones from the bug contest. First place is a random berry seed and third place is a random berry, so far that's the only way I know of.

I've been meaning to ask this, if you trade a pokemon with a nickname does it keep it when it gets to the new trainer or is it kinda just lost?
