Mew and Mewtwo's #s

Post by TaylorGS »

I was in the Pokémon Mansion on Cinabar Island, right? Well, the little journal entries around the place made me wonder. According to them, and the first movie, Mew came first. Then Mewtwo was cloned from Mew's DNA.
So why exactly is Mewtwo's Pokédex number before Mew's?

I think it was mostly made for the pokemon r/g/b/y games, since Mewtwo was the last # available, and if they switched it with Mew, everyone would haave a missing #150, and Mewtwo would be up on 151, I think they just did it to save the kids from confusion

That's what I was thinking too. Cause Mew was supposed to be known first, but well... I guess putting Mew first in the Pokédex would cause confusion... But... why didn't... gah. Nevermind me. --;

i know I am referring to the first movie when I say this but in the game and in the movie Mew was thought to be extinct.

Mewtwo is cloned from fossilized DNA of a Mew. Yes Mew was thought to be extinct (It is said during the origin of mewtwo story). This is my reasoning on why Mewtwo is #150 and Mew is #151

So it's because they discovered them actually alive. So first Mewtwo was alive while they had the pokedex and mew was thought to be extinct, untill they found out Mew wasn't exctinct. But then what about Aerodacctyl, Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops or whatever it was? If they were trying not to confuse us they confused us by trying not to confuse us. It makes no sense at all. Also if Mewtwo was cloned from Mew's DNA from the fossil wouldn't Mewtwo also have the DNA of all the pokemon from the DNA of Mew? Another thing that is confusing.

Actually, I just thought cause legendarys usually get put last on the Pokedex. xP And the rare the legendary they are, the lower on the pokedex they get put on.

But meh, that's just me. I don't really know the real answer to that. =/

I wouldn't read too far into this all, I could be wrong but I doubt there is really a specific reason as to the order of them all, it's just a game for kids so I doubt they'd go too deep into a simple story.

However, personally I feel it's because of the way the Pokédex is/was coded. The Pokédex only went down a few entries past the lowest numbered Pokémon you had. Hence once you caught Mewtwo people would think it was all complete as they had 1-150 done and at the time it was being pushed that there was just 150 Pokémon. If Mew had been number 1 there would have been a gaping slot at the top of the Pokédex causing people suspicion as to why slot #1 was empty when they had #2-151.

I don't think anyone does, really, we're just coming up with theories :smile:
