What are Shadow Pokemon?

What are Shadow pokemon? Is their DNA altered? Is it their brains? I have no clue. PLease respond

The colloseum games define a shadow pokemon as one where their heart has been closed. Exactly what that is isnt made too clear, but from what i can guess at, it's basically a pokemon who's emotions have been striped from it through some process to make it a stronger fighter.

Dark Pokemon are evil versions of Pokemon. I have a Dark Pokemon known as Dark Celebi. Dark Pokemon have an altered effect on their attacks.
