GTS "scam" of the century
As more and more ridiculous offers are put on for Pokémon on the GTS, are there any reasonable trades left? I see but one way: Make semi-ridiculous trades yourself. The way things are going, it'll probably be the only majorly reasonable trade out there. But why are people doing this? Why are people asking for things like a level 9 and under Skuntank etc. for things when they know that's impossible?

I would imagine it's because they are attempting to clone pokemon.
I actually discovered a semi-easy way to clone,
that almost always works.
People put up ridiculous things so that their Pokemon aren't traded off while they clone.
Just becareful what you do put up...
My freind and I got a couple of level 4 abomasnows when we were cloning.
I don't clone much, anymore, but lots of people still do,
and sadly, that's what most people only use the GTS for.

The only reason why I would make an impossible trade is if I'm evolving Pokémon that need to be traded to be evolved so I can use the glitch involved there. I do trade normally, though, and have still been able to get Pokémon from the GTS.

I don't remember any patches being released for the non-Japanese versions, but I wouldn't get them anyway, because then I couldn't singlehandedly trade-evolve Pokémon. I don't clone. I have a Ditto to breed copies.

They tried.Ryan659 wrote:I thought the cloning glitch was taken out a while ago426222 wrote:It is pretty dumb. I also think it is because of the Cloning Cheat. If people would just stop doing that, the world would be better. o.0
And failed.
People found new ways to clone using the GTS.
Nintendo just stalled them for a bit...
Once you know why the cloning works,
it's pretty easy to use the glitch.
It's really impossible to get rid of it completely...

I wouldn't call the ridiculous trades 'scams', they make no effort to disguise what Pokémon they are giving and what Pokémon they want for it. It is a perfectly legitimate trade, but a very unbalanced trade.
I don't exactly know what could be done about the situation, but I definetely think something does need to be done. These trades offering a level 9 Bidoof for a level 100 Palkia are a waste of space and time on everybody's part. Perhaps a time limit on how long a Pokémon can be up on the GTS before it's taken down if not traded would help reduce these ridiculous trades.

I personally don't use the GTS after I saw a few eevees that cost a lv. 100 dialga each. I have gained a palkia for a larvitar, however (I have Diamond). I hope they fix the cloning glitch with Platinum, so then the GTS will be used for more reasonable trades. *coughnochancecough*

Re: GTS "scam" of the century
The glitch is cause because the game saves the knowledge that your Pokemon is home/there before it saves that your Pokemon is not in the place it was prior.
The GTS has to save it, and so does your game.
So, there is a brief millisecond where it is saved that the Pokemon is the place you're putting it,
but has not saved that is is out of the place it was in.
(Meaning, a brief moment when the GTS save file thinks it's in the GTS, and your game thinks it's in your game)
This is why cloning works.
Even if Nintendo randomizes the time it is saved,
there are still ways to tell when that transfer is taking place-
routers have lights that blink during connections.
A skilled cloner can tell which lights mean what, and clone easily.
Enough people know of this that the GTS is still crammed with fake trades,
all for the purpose of cloning.
The Solution?
Well, the one that saves that your Pokemon is NOT where it was first, and then saves to the place it's going to,
would mean that if your game ran out of power during the save,
or was accidentally turned off or something,
your Pokemon would be deleted.
That's why Nintendo made it the way it is- to prevent that.
However, it is being taken advantage of,
and probably will be in Platinum, too.
There is no way to save them at the same time,
since there's a small lag in the connection between the GTS and your game.
In short, the cloning glitch will never be fixed.
However, there are ways to make it less desirable to clone.
For example, it could be set so that unattainable Pokemon,
such as level 9 abombasnows, cannot be put up for trade or asked for.
Yes, it is a pain for the programmers at Nintendo to do,
but if they really wanted to stop so much GTS clog up,
then that's what they ought to do.
The cloner, then, is less inclined to clone,
since he or she will now that there is no guarantee that their Pokemon won't be traded.
In short, because of the glitch's nature, there's no way to completely stop it,
but there are ways to discourage use of it.

That is why Nintendo should have updates in their game. Any problems, glitches and the alike can be fixed as long as the user uses WFC with their Pokemon game.
