Re: You Learn Something New Everyday
I learnt, through watching old episodes of mythbusters, that the first thing I wrote in this thread is wrong... aparently a Duck's quack DOES echo

Ah yes I remember that episode, in fact I used to have a Mythbusters quote in an old signature image of mine, "Quack, damn you!"

I learned Canada has a much lower sales tax than the rest of Europe. The Americans need to stop complaining.

In Japan a thousand years ago the Japanese ladies would keep a Pillow Book. It is like a Diary but instead of putting what happened in the day they illistated their emotions via poems, sketches, ideas, lists, memories or something that made you think.
Oh and theres a guy who can actually be referred to as Mr *, and no I'm not joking. I wouldn't of expected that.

Best Buy is more of a ripoff than ever. Consumer Reports tested that their "optimization" service is a fraud.

This is a common misconception but the exact reasons for yawning aren't known. If you did indeed yawn because you need extra air, you would expect athletes and people who exercise to be yawning like crazy after periods of aerobic exercise when they need the oxygen, but they don't which pretty much voids the yawn = air intake theory.pikalover1234 wrote:You Yawn Because You Aren't Getting enough Air.

Re: You Learn Something New Everyday
That said, I know from personal experiance that yawning does give added oxygen into the lungs, as I have often yawned when I haven't been taking enough deep breaths. I also heard a theory (although it was just a theory) that the reasoned you yawn when you're tired is to stokpile oxygen in the blood so that you can breathe steadily through the night, which is obviously based off yawning taking in more oxygen.
Why don't athletes yawn? Maybe because they're better trained at controling their breathing? Not saying your wrong roy, justy saying how i can understand why people thing its true

From what I remember what my Grade 8 science teacher said about yawning, it has to do with removing the pressure from the eardrums or something like that.

Athletes were just an example, though. I'm certainly not a trained athlete but I don't find myself constantly yawning after a run. Just breathing heavily.
