That's kind of stating the obvious...

Like in the games, the better rods can still catch the same fish as the poorer rods - so while an old rod can catch Goldeen and Remoraid only, the good rod can catch any pokemon listed with a good rod as well as those that can be caught with the old rod.

Bascially when it says 'Fishing (Old Rod)' read it as 'Fishing (Old Rod and better)' Or as 'Fishing (Old Rod/Good Rod/Super Rod)...

i noticed finneon wasn't listed on the dex. i just caught one fishing with my super rod while on my quest for a female shellos. lol
