The 'Which Pokémon do you prefer?' game
Here is a game that will, I hope, spark some decent conversation regarding Pokémon. Basically, I will list two Pokémon that are similar in some ways but different in others, and then ask which Pokémon people prefer and why. This is in Serious Pokémon Discussion for a reason, so short answers are not acceptable! Neither are answers like "because it looks good", or, "because I like it". If you don't have anything decent to say, simply don't say it. You must explain why you made your choice, based on stats, movesets and other things.
Once all conversation on two Pokémon has, I feel, been brought to an end, I will start again with two more Pokémon.
The first two Pokémon are: Crobat and Pidgeot. Why did I pick these two? Well, they both have a base stage, first stage and second stage evolution, they can both be caught early on in the game and they are both of the Flying type, as well as both having a different type also. Firstly, here are their stats:
Pidgeot - Normal/Flying
Base stats
HP: 83
Attack: 80
Defense: 75
Special attack: 70
Special defense: 70
Speed: 91
Crobat - Posion/Flying
Base stats
HP: 85
Attack: 90
Defense: 80
Special attack: 70
Special defense: 80
Speed: 130
As you can see, Pidgeot and Crobat have similar stats, except for Speed, which Crobat excels in. I would argue that it is less work to obtain a Pidgeot than a Crobat, but is it worth it? Who do you think is best, and why?

It really depends on personal preference but in this case I would choose Crobat not just because of stats but it can learn a variety of types of moves what can make Crobat a deadly opponent. All you have to do is give it Bite, Sludge Bomb, Aerial Ace/Air Cutter, and Steel Wing and you have a good set of moves to handle some situations like battling Rock types or Psychic types even though Crobat is likely to get taken out in 1 hit. Attach Quick Claw for a first attack or Black Glasses to power up Bite or even go dangerous and go with Focus Band. The reason why I say Focus Band is dangerous is because it has little chance of actually taking effect. Most people choose Pidgeot because Pidgey is easy to train but I would say the effort for getting Crobat is more than worth it.

Although Crobat has the best stats out of the 2 Pokemon, i would have to choose Pidgeot. This is becuase i find Pidgey/Pidgeotto is easier to train than Crobat's pre evolutions. Although Crobat has the batter base stats i have found that Pidgeot is a more reliable Pokemon in battle than Crobat. I feel that it excels better with its flying ability than crobat does, due to the fact that Crobat can learn a variety of types so it wanders away from its air based ability, where as Pidgeot learns more flying based attacks

i'd choose crobat. It had a advantage in some of the stats, plus flying/normal can't learn poison attacks. Crobat is a also useful in cathing any pokemon that tries to escape in battle. Most of the time people think that Pidgey and it's evloved form are too n00bish. Also Crobat can used with some hold items and boom, powerful attacks

Crobat all the way man! I mean... compare this powerful pokemon with something as weak as Pidgeot? I mean come on! It can learn Sludge Bomb, a really useful move in the game, Shadow ball, another useful move, And Aerial ace! While pidgeot can just sit there and featherdance it's head off... or quick attack. No one really uses Pidgeot because it doesnt have the stats to work it! And the moves. A Choice banding Crobat v.s a choice banding pidgeot = Crobat wins.

Ooh... that's tough for me, but I'll give an explainable answer.
I guess... Crobat because (I hope these sound good)
1) Pidgeot learns flying and normal attacks. That's really it. I personally can't come up with 4 attacks for that Pokémon.
2) Crobat is faster, and I usually go for the speed stat. Usually.
3) Crobat learns more different attacks than Pidgeot, and can cause status effects. (I'm not really thinking about the move Toxic since more Pokémon can learn that)

New pair: Electabuzz and Magmar. Each of them is specific to one version of a game, they seem to be paired up, one is the equivalent of the other in the other game.
Electabuzz - Electric
Base stats
HP: 65
Attack: 83
Defense: 57
Special attack: 95
Special defense: 85
Speed: 105
Magmar - Fire
Base stats
HP: 65
Attack: 95
Defense: 57
Special attack: 100
Special defense: 85
Speed: 93
There's not too much between them stat-wise, Magmar may have slightly better attack stats than Electabuzz but Electabuzz makes up for it in speed, so it's pretty close - who do you think is best and why?

I never really used either ones, but i'll compare and i'll have to say....
Magmar.
It learns many good moves and can be a physical and special sweeper! Confuse ray, psychic, thunderpunch, Flamethrower is REALLY similar to electabuzz's set. which is Thunderbolt, Psychic, Thunderpunch, Ice Punch. Only difference is ice punch. :S Oh wait, electabuzz can be a physical or special sweeper too! x_X Gawd nintendo you're so original in creating stats and movesets for two totally different pokemon... Anyway, i still say magmar, because defence isnt really an issure for sweepers. Sweep, die, switch to another pokemon. O_o

My pick is magmar not because I use it more than electabuzz but it can learn a better range of attacks like Confuse Ray which is really usefull if you pair it up with a move like Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Electabuzz really doesn't have anything it could use to possibly prevent an attack from a ground type unlike Magmar which with the use of Confuse Ray can almost guarantees an extra attack.

I don't use them either. But I'd say Magmar. First of all it's a fire type. And Fire types are my favorite pokemon. Second, Magmar has better stats. Except speed. But I'd still take Magmar because I don't care about speed.I don't really care about Stats unless I have to choose beaten pokemon like this. But Magmar has disadvanteges. But nobody's perfect, right? But in my opinion Magmar is better. There you go. My explanation!
