Haymaker?

Post by Pikachu3828 »

I've been reading around on numerous (old) Pokémon TCG websites and booklets from my old Pokémon card sets and I've noticed them referring to decks as being "like a haymaker" and such. I've searched around, but I just can't find what exactly a haymaker is. The booklets are from the Tempest box set, which itself is pre-third generation Pokémon, and they are reffering to Haymakers as old, so I'm guessing whatever they were they were from the original Base set. Could anyone enlighten me on what a haymaker is?

Haymaker was one of the most popular deck types during the early days. It focused on Basic Pokemon that could attack quickly and fiercely for little Energy. The major stars of the haymaker were Hitmonchan (base), Electabuzz (base), and Scyther (Jungle).

Ah, I see. Thank you for clarifying. I haven't heard of "haymaker" in a long time though, does the strategy no longer work?

It may still be strong in Unlimited, but otherwise it's basically dead.
