I found this article the other day and thought it was quite interesting. Everyone is citing the Wiimote as being totally unique and original, but it looks like perhaps Sega could have thought up the idea for it some time ago. Take a look at it:
It even has a light gun attachment much like the Wiimote does! I should imagine Sega dropped it due to the technology perhaps not being viable for home gaming back in 1998. Sega dropped out of the console race with the Dreamcast and perhaps Nintendo have picked up on their old idea for the Wii...

I knew Nintendo and Saga use to have used to have a 'whatever you make for your console's we'll make too' kind of relationship, but I thought Nintendo stoped that when thanks to the Mega CD, Nintendo created the Playstation and lost it's number 1 holding in the console market for a long time. Guess I'm wrong
