Well, seeing as pokemon are basically the only type of animals they have there, people would have to eat them, right? I mean, the anime has implied that people eat magikarp and farfetched. I suppose we just all seem surprised because we never heard of it. Someone who grew up in an entirely vegitarian community would think we who eat cows and pigs are absurd. It's the same principles.
