In the Elite 4 we don't bother with the frying pan, you're thrown staight into the fire with pikapower06 and her red hot set of Pokémon. Her smile might be warm and friendly, but pikapower06 has a burning desire to stop anyone advancing beyond her in the Elite 4 and will roast anyone who tries thier luck. Ok, I'll stop with all the fire jokes now
Magcargo, like most Pokémon on the squad, has two possible fire moves to chose from. Flamethrower has the better accuracy of the two while Fire Blast has the better damage. Both have a chance to burn you as well, so bring appropriate healing items. Earthquake will hit (and hurt) anything that isn't a Flying type or has the Levitate ability, and Rock Slide will take care of the former Problem.
Blaziken, being part Fighting, has a small weakness to Flying moves. The most common of which is Fly, which not only will damage Blaziken but allow it not to be hit for a turn. Sky Uppercut rectifies this small problem, as even when flying, Sky Uppercut can hit it. Blaze Kick is a strong Fire move that becomes a critical hit more often than most moves, making it even more powerful. Overheat is one of the strongest Fire attack, the downside of it being that it lowers the Special Attack of the user, so the more it's used the less damage it will do. Look for this to be used twice at most. Aerial Ace is a Flying type move that is like Swift in that it will always hit regardless of accuracy. So all those Double Team's you might use to raise your Evasion won't help. The only way to dodge it is to either be in the air with Fly/Bounce (Beware of Sky Uppercut) or in the ground/water with Dig/Dive
There are 2 Houndoom on pikapoer06's squad. You're going to be happy that one is a shiny as they both have very different move sets and it will be the only way to tell which one is which. The normal one has Overheat and and Fire Blast as the Fire moves, both have downsides (that's lowering the Special Attack stat and poor accuracy). Hyper Beam is a strong move that the user has to miss a turn to recharge after using it. Houndoom will be unlikely to use this until it knows it will knock out the opponent. Crunch is a painful Dark move that may also lower the opponent's Special Defence, which would be helpful to Houndoom if it's own Special Attack is lowering.
The Shiny Houndoom also has Crunch in its move set, but that's where the similarities end. Sunny Day will lower the attack power of Water type moves while raising Fire type moves, helpful for its Flamethrower. Sunny Day will also take away the charging up time Solar Beam would need, meaning all those Water and Ground types that may be used agasint Houndoom will be in Trouble. This Houndoom will cast Sunny Day firt, after that it depends on who the opponent is, but it won't be good that's for sure.
Charizard is a powerful opponent, and this one is set up to be just nasty againt you. Flamethrower is a standard (painful) Fire attack, Dragon claw is a standard (painful) Dragon type move (which Steel types are the only thing resistant too, but then Steel types are week to Fire types anyway, so they shouldn't be in the fight in the first place). Wing Attack is a nice Flying attack with give Charizard a wide range of move types to pick from. Blast Burn is a Fire type move which is more powerful than Overheat (which is a very powerful attack). The downside is that afterwards, the user will need to rest a turn (making it a Fire version of Hyper Beam). If you see this coming, it's likely to be the last thing you see.
Arcanine may be the last Pokémon pikapower06 has, but that doesn't mean it's all over. Overheat is used in the same way as it has on the other Pokémon with it, usually no more than twice and usually towards the end of the fight. Until it's ready to bust out Overheat, it'll use Flame Wheel as its main Fire move. Dragonbreath is a Dragon attack to hit (almost) all types. Extremespeed is a powerful attack that will hit first. Which means if Arcanine sees an opening to end the match but is slower than its opponent, Extremespeed will end the match. If (and it is a big if) you manage to survive and beat pikapower06, be proud that you've just beaten one of the best there is. Then you can go and tremble in fear since there are 3 more like her but sligtly better to come. So if you got from the frying pan to the fire, where do you go from there?
