Ok, so you may be experiencing a little bit of déjŕ vu right now, and on the surface this Gym does seem similar to the last one. lucario runs a combatants gym, which focuses less on fighting types and more on battling ability. Of course that means that this Gym won’t be as easy as the last one, which if you recall wasn’t too easy. So once inside the gym, you presented with a variety of Pokémon related questions like "What type is effective against Flying types, Electric of Ground?" or "Who does Bulbasuar evolve into, Ivysuar or Charmeleon?" Getting the right answers will get you through to the leader but be warned, those that do not know an answer will be sent back to start again.
Lucario starts of this match, and with the leader called lucario as well, you should have known this was coming. With its part steel type, this match will be long and tough… and this is only Pokémon one. Aura Blast is the fighting equivalent of swift, always guaranteed to hit (unless you’re flying, bouncing, digging or diving). Dragon Pulse is a painful Dragon type move that isn’t resisted by most types. Metal Claw is a painful steel move giving this Lucario a wide choice of moves. Detect will allow it to avoid being hit on at least one turn, though it’s chance of working lowers the more its used.
Being part Ghost and part Dark, Sableye has no weaknesses and 3 immunities. Shadow Ball and Shadow Claw are two nasty Ghost moves, one giving a chance to lower your Special Defence, the other with a high critical hit ratio. But being Ghost moves means that normal Pokémon won’t get hit by these moves at all. That’s mainly what Dark Pulse is for, being a painful Dark type move. Look for Sableye to kick of its battle with Embargo. This will stop you being able to use items for 5 turns. It’ll also stop lucario using items on Sableye, but he could just switch and use them on other Pokémon, so watch out.
Whiscash is a nasty Pokémon, being both Water and Ground means its immune to Electric attacks, but thankfully week to grass, which is probably why Whiscash has Ice Beam in its arsenal. While Aqua Tail is a standard Water move, Earthquake and Magnitude are painful Ground types. Look for Whiscash to try and get Magnitude 10, which is pretty much a one hit KO. Good luck getting past this one, you will need it
Charizard heats up the battle with its Heat Wave move, a very painful fire move with a chance to burn you. Air Slash is a Flying move with a chance to make you flinch, Dragon Claw gives it a painful move that only Steel types can resist, and Solarbeam is for any water or ground types that want to try to take down Charizard.
Torterra is a force to be reckoned with. With both Grass and Ground attributes, this one won’t be easy to beat, especially with the move’s its packing. Leaf Storm is an extremely powerful Grass moves, one of the strongest. Thankfully for you it will lower Torterra’s Special Attack down a couple of points each time he uses it. Unfortunately you might not survive past the first time he hits you with it. Giga Drain is a back up grass move that will also heal Torterra, leaving him in this battle a whole lot longer. Energy ball seems a bit redundant with the other 2 Grass moves, but when it could lower Special Defence, you might realise why its there. With Earthquake as a powerful ground move to round it out, this one will hurt you a lot
Jynx is the sixth and final Pokémon for lucario, but that doesn’t mean it’s all over yet. Ice Punch and Avalanche are powerful Ice moves, and if you’re faster than Jynx be warned, Avalanche will hit for double power if Jynx receives damage in that same turn. With Psychic and Focus Punch in its set as well, you’ve got to be one amazing trainer to get out of this gym with the badge. It's interesting to note that while it would be tough against both Whiscash and Torterra, Ground Type moves will be your strongest ally in this match. By now you should have a Geodude (because there's always somekind of cave before Gym 2), so training it up to get magnitude would be wise. Remember, this is only Gym 2, there’s still a long way to go before you’ve conquered The Pika Club’s Pokémon league, though beating this gym should give you a confidence boost for the rest of the league, or maybe it should put fear in you. After all, if this is Gym 2, how tough will the rest of the league truly be?
