Gym 4 is a bit more of a Normal affair (did you see what I did there, since this is a normal gym… ok I’ll stop with the jokes for now then). SonicKitsune is your host for Gym 4, and once again we’re testing your Pokémon knowledge. Each trainer in the gym will give you a question on a Pokémon and its type, strengths and weaknesses or evolution lines. Get it right, and the trainer you fight will have less Pokémon, get it wrong and he’ll have more. Once through all the trainers, SonicKitsune awaits you.
Linoone kicks off with a pretty standard move set. Slash has a high chance for a critical hit, Headbutt could make you flinch, and return will do a lot of damage if the Pokémon has a high friendship level with its trainer (and a little insiders tip, this one does). You might not expect a Linoone to know Thunderbolt, which is kind of the point, so it might be best not to use the water or flying guys against this one.
Kangaskhan is a heavy hitter with that Comet Punch. Watch out for that one often. Bite is a Dark move that could cause you to flinch, and Iron Tail is a Steel type move. Reversal will do more Damage the lower Kangaskhan health is, so look for that move to be used a lot the near the end of Kangaskhan’s battle.
Furret will use Quick Attack for its speed and Slam for its power, depending on what the situation requires. Hyper Voice is a standard normal attack (ok, so maybe it does loose its strength when used in double battles, but this isn’t a double battle). Shock Wave is the Electric version of Swift, so it’ll hit you as long as you’re not Flying, Bouncing, Digging or Diving. Otherwise you can’t do anything to avoid a Swift attack or any of its elemental counterparts.
Porygon-Z has a very varied and potentially dangerous move set. Signal Beam is not only a strong Bug move, but can also inflict Confusion on your Pokémon. Discharge has a chance to Paralyze you, while Tri Attack could Burn, Freeze or Paralyze. Psychic, while not only having a chance of Confusion, is strong against Fighting types. Why would I be mentioning that? Well if you know anything about type match ups, you may know Fighting is super effective against Normal Types. This is the counter for those.
Lopunny is the final choice of SonicKitsune, and with a full happiness level with SK, Return will hurt you a lot. Quick Attack is a nice little move that will hit first regardless of speed (unless you use a hit first move yourself, in which case it’s back to working it out on speed). Bounce is a 2 turn move that’s a bit like Fly, it’s a two turn move, lifting the user in the air (and out of harm) on the first move before striking on the second, and it’s a Flying type move. Unlike Fly, it doesn’t have as much attack power, accuracy or PP, but it can paralyze the opponent. You might not have to watch out for this move to much. Shadow Ball on the other hand is a painful little Ghost move. Of course Ghost moves don’t hurt Normal type Pokémon, so maybe you can use that to your advantage. You’ll need all the advantage you can get since SonicKitsune has a cleverly built move sets, but by now you should be getting used to our level of toughness. With this guy down, you’re halfway through The Pika Club’s Pokémon League. Unfortunately you’re through the easy half of the league, now comes the tough half.
