Reach for the skies in Gym 5. It’s all about aerial combat in this place. Phantom4722 is master of the air and the birds that fly in it. We’re making it so that you’ll have just picked up the Fly HM recently, and if you haven’t you are in trouble. See after defeating the trainer standing in the room in the Gym, you discover that there’s a trap door on the roof, and the trainer hints that the only way up is to use Fly. Ok, so maybe you can’t use the Fly HM on the field, but you’re not on the field, you’re in a Gym, so we’ll allow it for just here. You’ll have to repeat the process on the second floor (beat the trainer, fly up the trap door) to reach floor three and Phantom4722.
Every single one of Phantom’s Pokémon has Fly. This flying move will raise the user in the air avoiding almost every move (and if you find the ones that hit him while he’s flying, like Sky Uppercut, you could really turn the tables), it will then strike down on its second turn. Since its part of all the Pokémon’s move sets, I won’t bother to cover the move again.
Pidgeot kicks off the match, Showing just what a Flying type can do. While Gust is a basic Flying move, and Quick Attack is to strike first, Wing Attack is the powerhouse of this move set. Look for this one hitting often.
With part Steel type, Skarmory will be hard to take down. And with Steel Wing being a strong Steel move with a chance of raising Skarmory’s Defence, Air Cutter which has a high Critical Hit ratio and Swift, which is guaranteed to hit regardless of accuracy, and this is going to be one tough bird to take out of the sky.
Vibrava is actually a Ground Dragon type, so all those thinking that their Electric types are going to walk all over this Gym will be sadly mistaken. DragonBreath will only be resisted by Steel types, so it’s likely to hurt you a lot. Hyper Beam is a very strong move, but it will cause Vibrava to miss a turn to recover, an opportune time to strike back, assuming you survived the hit in the first place. Rock Tomb will not only hurt your Pokémon, but will also lower your speed. If you were faster than Vibrava to start off with, a few hits of Rock Tomb may mean your striking second.
Dodrio shows exactly what a strong beak can do, with both Peck and Drill Peck. Tri Attack on the other had is a very nice move, as it can have a chance to inflict Burn, Freeze or Paralysis. With Tri Attack you could be loosing a few Pokémon to status effects after this match.
Delibird won’t be bringing you any presents in this fight, though with Thief he may just take your item for himself. Focus Punch is a strong fighting move, but won’t hit if you manage to strike him on that turn, and since it makes the user always go second, you’ve got a good chance of doing just that. Blizzard is a strong Ice move with a chance to Freeze you, so you might need to bring a few Ice Heals to this match.
Swellow is the only one of Phantom4722’s Pokémon to have Aerial Ace, the Flying version of Swift, and will always hit regardless of accuracy. Façade will do double damage if Swellow is Poisoned, Burned or Paralyzed, and since Electric attacks should be one of your primary forms of attack, the chance of Swellow being Paralyzed is high. Wing Attack is a nice Flying type move to round up the move set. Phantom4722 may look easy when you look at what he’s got, but he’s got a fair few surprises in store to make this anything but a push over. Still if you’ve got what it takes, maybe you should move onwards to Gym 6?
