Well here it is, end of the road. Well almost, you still have to beat the 8th Gym before you’ve conquered The Pika Club’s Pokémon league. Shrine Sprite and Kikyo are ready to take you on in this place. Yes that’s right, 2 Gym leaders here, it’s a double battle for the 8th and final badge. To get you ready for double battling, the Gym has one thin path going around the Gym, with some little nooks at every so often, inside these nooks are trainers, one on each side of the path. No escape from those double battles, so there’s no excuse you don’t know how to double battle by the time you get to Shrine Sprite and Kikyo.
It’s tough to break down each Pokémon in this battle move by move, as each one has been carefully trained up to effectively help others. Shrine Sprite’s Minun has Rain Dance, used to not only power up the water moves of Shrine’s other Pokémon, but Minun, Plusle and Porygon-Z comes equipped with Thunder, which has it’s accuracy increased from 75% to 100% in rain. Look for that first, followed by either Thunder from Minun, or to start using Double Team. This will increase Minun’s evasion making it tougher to hit, then using Baton Pass to change to Swampert. Unlike just switching Pokémon, using Baton Pass to do it also exchanges all stat changes made onto a Pokémon, so Minun would pass over the increased evasion to Swampert.
Swampert also has Rain Dance, increasing the power of its Water Pulse and increasing the accuracy of its partner’s Thunder. Mirror Coat will take any Special attacks used against Swampert and strike the attack power back, so you may want to use only Physical attacks against Swampert. Earthquake is a nasty ground move that will hit every other thing on the field. If your Pokémon are either part Flying or have the levitation ability, you’ll manage to avoid this (though you are in trouble from all those Thunder attacks). Since it hits everything on the field, you’ll be lucky if it’s used when Kikyo’s Plusle is out battling, as this move will pretty much KO it.
Kikyo’s Pokémon are also made to be both attacking you and helping out Shrine Sprite’s Pokémon. With Helping Hand, Plusle will boost the attack power of either Minun or Swampert, depending which is out. Minun or Swampert have the rain falling from the sky, look for Plusle to use Thunder to shock you with it. Nasty Plot is a stat boosting move, sharply increasing the Special Attack of the Pokémon using it, and with Baton Pass it can send that boost (or three) to Porygon-Z.
Porygon-Z is a bit of a power house, and probably the most troublesome one of the squad. Magnet Rise will basically give Porygon-Z the levitate ability, making it immune to Ground attacks, useful for when Swapert’s out with it wanting to cause an Earthquake. Psychic is a strong Psychic attack (thus the name) and can be pretty deadly to a lot of Pokémon. With Thunder capitalising on its partner’s rain making ability, this is one powerful attacker. To make this more annoying, Porygon-Z comes equipped with Recover, allowing it to heal itself during the battle. Look for this one to be the last Pokémon standing from the Gym Leaders.
They may seem invincible, and they almost are. With all those Thunder’s flying about you may thing a Ground type would be your best bet, but with Ground being super effective against Ground, you’d need to find a way to avoid that Earthquake. Gligar/Gliscor being part Flying or Lunatone/Solrock’s levitate ability may be a good idea until you remember Swampert has Water Pulse as well. You’ll need to think outside of the box for this one, and while I can think of 1 Pokémon that would be really helpful to you, I’m not going to say. After all, it’s not a challenge if I give you all the answers
So you’ve finally beaten all 8 Gyms, and you’ve conquered The Pika Club’s Pokémon League. I bet your feeling really proud right now. But hang on a second, you haven’t beaten the whole league. After all, what’s a league without an Elite 4? So, are you ready for the final challenge? The toughest 4 trainers you will ever meet? Then lets get it on.
