Intermittent downtime

For the past few weeks The Pika Club has suffered from some intermittent downtime whereby The Pika Club is rendered inaccessible for short spaces of time. Thanks to our hosts this is not usually more than a few minutes but it is still a minor inconvenience. We’ve (and by we’ve I mean our hosts have) been working on a solution to stop the periodic inaccessibility so hopefully it shouldn’t be an issue for much longer.

If you do notice any downtime, please get in touch with WhoKnows_WhoCares and let him know. You can find out how to contact him on the Contact Us page.

Minor site modifications

This is a quick update to say that I have been making a few modifications around the website. You’ll notice that you can now email articles to friends, as well as rate them.

I’ve also modified the sites look slightly, changing the font face and decreasing the menu widths to give the content block a bit more space. You might see a couple other modifications in the coming days, but no major changes.

Edit: I’ve also changed the “Pokemon HG/SS Gallery” link on the top menu to just “Galleries” as it’s now a portal to other gallery pages. I’ve added a new gallery: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Check it out!

Edit #2: I’ve also added a poll on the right hand side. Please vote in it!

HG/SS Image Gallery

It’s been an uneventful news day but we at The Pika Club have been hard at work giving you visitors a reason to keep visiting. We’re constantly hard at work reporting on anything and everything related to Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver we find, but we also understand sometimes all you want to do is look at pictures. They’re especially exciting when a new game is coming out and screenshots are scare. So we’ve taken this opportunity to open up an image gallery so you can browse magazine scans, screenshots and anything else related to Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver at your leisure. We’ll keep it regularly updated, so keep checking back!

On another note, the navigation menu on the right has been modified slightly to make accessing all the different features The Pika Club has to offer easier. Be sure to register on our forums and tell us how we’re doing and what you think of Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver!

New Blog Design

As may be obvious to those who have visited us before, The Pika Club has just got a redesign. While it’s not as pretty as before, a new design was needed for a while as a lot of important information on the old design was not very easy to come by.

It’s still not complete yet and some minor things will be changing here and there over the coming days but it should not cause much of an inconvenience and everything will work as normal in the meantime.

So while we’re at it, TPC needs a new banner! Think you can do better than the current one of Ash? (The answer is yes!) Well then, now’s your chance to prove it! We need a 576×181 banner for this blog. The only requirements are it have a transparent background and roughly fit in with the current website design. To submit an entry, simply upload it somewhere (eg imageshack.us) and then comment on this article including the link to your banner. The winning banner will be used on this blog!

TPC’s Berrydex released

In pursuing my education I must make another temporary leave of absence from The Pika Club in order to focus on my studies. It was The Pika Club’s Easter project to develop a working dex database in order to compete with other, larger Pokemon websites for usefulness and ease of use. The dex database was to comprise of:

  • Berrydex
  • Pokédex
  • Movedex

Since then other dexs have been suggested to us, such as a PickUpdex and others. While this is something to think about in the future, it is not a priority right now. We somewhat underestimated the undertaking in these 3 dexs alone and did not succeed in completeing these before Easter’s end. However good headway has been made, such that privately I am willing to release the Berrydex which, as far as we are concerned, is 100% complete. This is a preliminary release in that it is not being advertised outside of The Pika Club; rather we prefer to wait until we have our Tridex Tour De Force completed in order to take on the big boys.

An alpha release of our Pokédex, dubbed ‘PHPokédex’, was considered but it is not far enough along and is too cluttered to suggest what it may offer to visitors in the future and it was decided against. I will return sometime in early June and hopefully our dex project will be complete before the summer. For now, click the berry below (or the middle button above this post) to reach our Berrydex.

The Berrydex is undoubtably not without its faults and so I invite all who are registered members of our forums to report bugs, errors, suggest features and offer advice in the appropriate forum.

Brand New TPC News Blog

The 4th version of The Pika Club’s website has been in development for a while now, and it’s still in development. This is not v4, just to clear things up. However, while we wait for development for v4 to finish, we’ve thought we’d put something kind of content for people to view.

So here’s our News Blog. In it, we’ll try to bring you all the latest news that’s going on in the Pokemon world… like when Pokemon Platinum will be released in America (March 22nd) and Europe (TBA), about the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game announced (Explorers of the sky, due out sometime this Spring in Japan, no release plans for other regions), new Trading Card Game set, called Platinum, being released 11th February, and the 11th movie, Giratina and the Sky Warrior being released on DVD in America in spring (no specific date yet. Also don’t bother asking for European release dates, we’re still waiting for the 7th movie to be released over here)

Well, they’re just a few examples of the kind of news we hope to bring.

And on a side note, a couple of years ago, we used to use the web address thepikaclub.com, then due to circumstances beyond our control we lost that one and had to use our current one of thepikaclub.co.uk. Well, the good news is that we now own thepikaclub.com again. Both links will lead to exactly the same site (currently .com redirects to .co.uk) but its good to know that all our old links out there on the web now work again and point back here.
